Fashion of Black Teeth in Old Japan

A Yedo chemist’s recipe for black teeth dye from Tales of Old Japan by A.B. Mitford (1871):

"Take three pints of water, and, having warmed it, add half a teacupful of wine. Put into this mixture a quantity of red-hot iron; allow it to stand for five or six days, when there will be a scum on the top of the mixture, which should then be poured into a small teacup and placed near a fire. When it is warm, powdered gallnuts and iron filings should be added to it, and the whole should be warmed again. The liquid is then painted on to the teeth by means of a soft feather brush, with more powdered gallnuts and iron, and, after several applications, the desired colour will be obtained." (Mitford 203)

trashthot:

three weeks ago another dog attacked my puppy georgie and her eye came completely out of its socket. since it was totally out, the chances of saving it were very slim, but surgery to remove it is expensive so we tried to keep it in. her eye has been healing fine, but this morning her eye burst and popped open and we have no choice but to remove her eye, otherwise she could die due to an infection, which is inevitable if it is not removed soon!

the surgery to remove her eye will cost $1,400. it may not seem like a lot, but my family just cant afford it and we desperately need help! tumblr can raise $17000 for dashcon so hopefully tumblr can help pay for my puppy’s surgery and save her life!

please reblog and, if you can, go here to donate! donations are desperately needed and much appreciated!
